Lovisa Stannow Joins SPR Board of Directors

April 11, 2002

LOS ANGELES - Lovisa Stannow, Executive Director of the Pacific Institute for Women's Health, has joined the Board of Directors of Stop Prisoner Rape (SPR), a human rights advocacy organization dedicated to ending sexual violence in detention.

Ms. Stannow has spent the past decade working in the fields of public health and human rights. She was formerly West Coast Director of Doctors Without Borders, where she launched extensive public awareness and media campaigns, and developed networks in the public health, corporate, and media communities.

Prior to working as the West Coast Director she served as Communications Director of Doctors Without Borders and Press and Parliamentary Officer of Amnesty International, following several years as a journalist in Latin America and Europe.

SPR's Board of Directors is a diverse group, which includes two survivors of prisoner rape, a psychiatrist who specializes in prison issues, and a CPA. Ms. Stannow’s experience in nonprofit administration, communications, and human rights advocacy promises to add a new dimension to the Board as it continues to lead SPR through a period of unprecedented growth.
