National Commission To Hear Prison Rape Testimony, KXAN Austin News, March 27, 2007

A national commission to prevent prison rape will hear testimony from those investigating the Texas Youth Commission and family of inmates Tuesday.

"It's quite disturbing that so much has come out recently," said Kathy Hall-Martinez, co-executive director of Stop Prisoner Rape. "And it does give the commission a really excellent opportunity to press officials here in Texas to get more information and also to learn from what's happened here in Texas."

The commission focused Monday on police and jailings.

Members will use information from the public hearings, and several in other states, to craft a set of national standards for detention facilities.
